Why SkIDentity?
SkIDentity supports the implementation of the cyber security strategy of the German Government and makes electronic identification (eID) very easy to use on the Internet and in mobile environments. The SkIDentity Service offers "Mobile eID as a Service" and, if necessary, derives cryptographically protected "Cloud Identities" from eIDs, which can be transferred to any smartphone and securely used there. In addition, the previously complex eID integration can also be carried out within a comfortable portal, and the trustworthy identities now come from a "Secure Cloud Infrastructure" certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, (BSI). On the 9th of November 2016, the German Government adopted the
"Cyber Security Strategy for Germany 2016" presented by the Federal Minister of the Interior, which includes the provisioning and use of secure electronic identities among the strategic
objectives and measures:
"Users need to be able to use secure, user-friendly and modern authentication tools on the Internet. The currently widespread, but not secure user name / password procedure is to be supplemented
as a standard and, if possible, replaced. The electronic identification documents with an online identification function are a key element with which the Federal German Government already
provides a highly secure and privacy-friendly identification option in the network. The goal is to establish the online identity function, and the secure identities derived from it, as a
standard identification tool for sensitive services, and to promote comparable secure solutions in the economy as well."
